Did you see Susan's feature of famous
media bears in February's Teddy Bear Times? The follow-up will be on Literary Bears. Probably the
most famous media bear of all is Winnie the Pooh, who is a literary bear as well. Pooh was the
creation of A A Milne, and the beloved companion of his son Christopher Robin. When he was young,
Christopher always called himself 'Billy Moon'. His adventures in 100 Acre Wood, with his friends
Piglet, Eyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, and Owl have enthralled generations of children - and adults, too.
Many manufacturers have made Pooh Bears over the years. When Walt Disney produced a short animated cartoon of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, it introduced him to a whole new audience. Naturally, Disney Poohs were soon filling the shops, and now he is the most popular Disney character, outselling even Mickey Mouse. Pooh Beanies, available from Disney stores, are very collectable, and are often made in limited editions. Here are a Marks and Spencer Pooh dating from the late 1970s, and two Disney Beanie Poohs. Look out for Nautical Pooh and Choo Choo Pooh, due to hit the Disney Stores soon. This year has already seen Valentines Day, Mothers Day and Easter Poohs, which may still be available in some Disney Stores if you hurry. Susan and Jenna hope that you have enjoyed the third edition of British Doll Showcase. We plan to update the gallery photos regularly, so please keep visiting. Bye! |
