Here's a happy photo - a big bunch
of Care Bears. When they first appeared in the shops many people didn't
like them, thinking that their rainbow colours were a bit way out.
Nowadays, of course, we're so used to vivid Beanies, that Care Bears
seem quite dull!
The Bears included Love-a-Lot, Funshine, Bedtime, Good Luck, Wish, Baby Tugs, Baby Hugs, Tenderheart, Birthday, Grams, Forest Friend and Grumpy, and they lived high above the clouds in a land called Care-a-Lot. Easily indentifiable by their pretty colours, cheeky faces, heart-shaped noses and red plastic hearts on their bottoms, they have large embroidered motifs on their tummies. They're becoming increasingly collectable - not just the plush ones (which came in several sizes) but the plastic figures too. The Care Bears had Cousins, which weren't bears but various other creatures such as Gentle Heart (Lamb) Brave Heart (Lion), Lotsa Heart (elephant) and Cozy Heart Penguin. These can also be found both as plush toys and plastic miniatures. Various accessories such as a house and car were available to accompany the plastic figures. Susan and Jenna hope that you have enjoyed this issue of British Doll Showcase, and would like to wish you a Happy, Doll-filled New Year 2000.
